ultimately powerful and gut wrenching So glad I got to see this play about the Troubles on Broadway. My professor brought up a good point when we were discussing this play Why do all of the IRA members look like dudes from the New Jersey mafia in a Scorcese film Anyway, I read this play for the second time after reading it about a year ago, and while I did understand a fair amount of Irish history at that point, it s incomparable with all of the context I have now, especially about the hunger strikes, which is the backdrop for this play I don t need to point out all of the reasons Irish My stage, I think, but I m glad they did There s always going to be bits you miss, or mishear, when you go to see a show, and reliving aspects of it is always nice too It s not a fun or happy play, though there s definitely aspects that are enjoyable and funny, but for the most part it s fairly gut wrenching and intense I I ve seen this show in the West End, so I know all that happens, but the supernatural elements didn t work for me, and I made the fundamental mistake of thinking that this play is about Quinn, when in reality it s about Caitlin I wrote this at the time So, The Ferryman is set in a farmhouse in County Armagh over about 24 hours It s I WAS WRONG.I saw The Ferryman a while ago now, just before the critics went in and declared it the best play ever in the history of evenbrilliant on stage and I can only strongly recommend to see it live if possible In London till May 19 and on Broadway from Oct 2A friend who saw the play in London picked up a copy for me and I m extremely grateful A masterful consideration of the Troubles that is equal parts wicked and weird Bucolic Ireland buts up against Republican gangst...More tornado than play Just the best thing ever to rip your heart out.Oh My God The power The power of this work I hadn t read any Irish Theatre in years but this brought it all back The incredible tension that leaps off the page as the family dynamic plays out against the background of the Troubles and the Evil and Pain they produced on all sides The innocence of the children and the damaged souls of all the teens and adults are all displayed in the subtlest of words and actions So little happens as a family disintegrates before our eyes It rips you up Oh My God The power The power of this work I hadn t read any Irish Theatre in years but
